PROJECT CASE STUDY

CNC Machine Tending
for Three Turning Machines

One articulated robot. Three CNC turning machines. A coordinated approach to component handling.

RD Automation brought robot installation, gripping hardware, mechanical engineering, wiring and programming together in one CNC machine tending cell.

CNC Machine Tending for Three Turning Machines

THE PROJECT

One Robot for a Shared Machine Tending Cell

The project centred on one requirement: configure a single articulated robot to serve three CNC turning machines. RD Automation developed the physical setup and robot programming around that arrangement.

THE CHALLENGE

Bringing Three Handling Needs Together

Serving multiple CNC machines calls for more than installing a robot. Component gripping, machine access and the movement sequence need to work as one system.

01

Repetitive component handling

Loading and unloading involves repeated handling at the machines.

OUR SOLUTION

The robot tending setup automates these recurring component handling tasks.

02

Serving three turning machines

A single robot needs a coordinated sequence to serve multiple machines.

OUR SOLUTION

Project specific robot programming brings the three machine arrangement into one handling system.

03

Holding and positioning parts

The robot needs a suitable grip to move components between handling positions.

OUR SOLUTION

A dedicated gripper and fingers support component picking and positioning.

THE SOLUTION

A Robot Cell Built Around the Machines

RD Automation installed an articulated robot with a dedicated pedestal, gripper and fingers to support the machine tending tasks. The cell layout brings the three CNC turning machines into one shared automation arrangement.

Mechanical installation, electrical wiring and robot programming were delivered within the same scope, connecting the handling hardware with the required robot movements.

THE ENGINEERING

The Details Behind Coordinated Handling

The gripping assembly, robot mounting, physical fencing and controls each play a different role. RD Automation brought these elements together as parts of the same machine tending system.

01

Gripper and fingers

Dedicated hardware for component holding and transfer.

02

Robot pedestal

A mounting arrangement for the articulated robot.

03

Mechanical assembly

The physical installation supporting the robot cell.

04

Safety fencing

A physical boundary around the robot working area.

05

Electrical wiring

Connections for the installed equipment and control hardware.

06

Robot programming

Movement instructions for the three machine tending arrangement.

CONTROLS AND PROGRAMMING

Connecting the Hardware to the Handling Sequence

The electrical cabinet and operator station form part of the robot cell. Wiring connects the installed equipment, while robot programming defines the handling movements for the three machine arrangement.

This integration brings the mechanical and electrical work together with robot control, giving the project a coordinated machine tending setup.
